boris markoja pep2017European Chess Academy is proud to present one of the most promising candidates for the new Slovenian Grandmaster – 20 year old IM Boris Markoja.

Boris is coming from a small town called Turnisce, which is located in northeastern part of Slovenia. His love for chess started when he was only 6 years old. He was practicing it while playing against different family members, but it was his brother Uros’ example that pushed him to go further. His more ‘offical’ chess path started when he joined a club called SD Radenska Pomgrad where he stayed until 2018 when the biggest Slovenian chess club ZSK Maribor showed interest in him and asked him to join them. His first bigger success happened in 2008 when he won the title of Slovenian youth champion in his age group U10. Since then his career as a chess player started to improve dramatically. Ever since 2013 Boris is a member of Slovenian youth and men teams. In 2016 his career reached its highest peak so far when he obtained the title of International Master.

So far Boris won many titles of Slovenian youth champion in different age groups, he played marvelously in different international open tournaments and he represented his country in different World and European youth chess championships.

We at European Chess Academy wish Boris success in his future chess path and we hope to be of great help to him!
